Triiodothyronine (T3) is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland and also in extra-thyroidal tissues from thyroxine (T4) through de-iodination. Triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine (T4) and are essential for brain and physical development in infants and for metabolic activity in adults. T3 is the body’s more active and potent thyroid hormone.
