Description
Autoantibodies against oxidized LDL (low density lipoprotein) represent an endogenous protection against oxidized LDL and prevent its penetration through the vessel wall and thus pathological accumulation in arteries.
Auto antibodies against oxidized LDL have been found in sera of patients with several different symptoms, such as diabetes, vascular diseases and carotid arteriosclerosis. The ox-LDL antibodies recognise tissues with atherosclerotic lesions. The titer of oxidised LDL antibodies is considered as an independent indicator for the progress of atherosclerosis.
