Description

C-reactive protein (CRP) has proved itself as a marker for inflammation.

CRP high-sensitive can be used to predict the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. C-reactive protein (CRP) is mainly formed in hepatocytes. The synthesis rate of CRP is influenced by the cytokines involved in the inflammatory processes. The biological half-life time is estimated to be 13–16 hours. The serum CRP concentration reflects very sensitive acute fever, pneumonia and myocardial infraction. Studies describe an association between inflammatory reactions and cardiovascular diseases such as arteriosclerosis or latent and chronic persistent infections. The CRP determination in urine using the high sensitive ELISA method allows – together with a2 -macroglobulin – an early screening diagnose after kidney transplantations. The CRP assay is also used to monitoring anti-rejection therapies.
