Myeloperoxidase (MPO) catalyses the oxidation of substances through H2O2.
The MPO H2O2 system has a toxic effect on many microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and mycoplasma.The efficiency of the bacteria-destructive Myeloperoxidase H2O2 system is increased by PMN-Elastase. MPO determination in the stool reflects the inflammatory activity of Crohn´s disease or ulcerative colitis.
