Description
Histamine is a biogenic amine that derives from the decarboxylation of histidine.
It is synthesised in mast cells, basophils, platelets, histaminergic neurons and enterochromaffin cells, where it is stored in vesicles. After stimulation and release, histamine acts by binding to its 4 receptors (H1R, H2R, H3R, and H4R) on target cells in various tissues. In humans, histamine is one of the most important mediators and takes part in the initial phase of an anaphylactic reaction.
