Description
APLP1 and APLP2 (amyloid-like protein 1, 2) are known to have similar primary structures than APP (amyloid precursor protein).
Recently, it has been published that three types of APLP1-derived amyloid-beta (Aβ)-like peptides of different lengths, namely APL1beta25, APL1beta27 and APL1beta28, can be found in cerebrospinal fluid. The processing of these peptides is regulated in a similar process than the amyloid-beta peptides via beta-secretase (BACE1) and gamma-secretase, yet, they were not deposited in an Alzheimer’s diseased (AD) brain. Additionally, in some experiments using cultured cells, relative production of APL1beta28 was regulated as well as that of amyloid-beta 42, and the usability of measuring of APL1beta28 in CSF is suggested as a candidate surrogate marker for amyloid-beta 42 in brain. Thus, APL1-beta peptides are expected to be novel biomarkers of AD research. This ELISA measures specifically APLP1 derived amyloid-beta like peptide 28.
