Description

The plaques which appear in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease patients are mostly constituted by the amyloid-beta protein (Aβ).

Amyloid-beta is a peptide which consists of 40 or 42 (43) amino acids, and reports show that it is cleaved by beta (β) and gamma (γ) secretase from the amyloid precursor protein. It has been shown that many variants of amyloid beta exist. In 2001, Edward H. Koo et al. found that the secretion of amyloid-beta 42 decreased by the effect of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and with this, the secretion of amyloid beta 38 increased. NSAIDs are attracting attention as a γ- secretase modulation and then amyloid-beta 38 and amyloid-beta 42 have become important object molecules to be measured as indicators for the effect of NSAIDs. This ELISA kit measures human amyloid beta (1-38) with complete N-terminus.
